Sep 22, 2013 · I keep getting hit with a DNS issue. When I run the Windows trouble shooter, it says that "Windows cant communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server"). Sometimes it says "Problem with Wireless Adapter or Access Point", as well.

The first to respond, wins. It's most likely that Google's DNS will return a "no such hostname" before your DNS-over-VPN returns a valid response. As the first one wins, the "no such host" gets cached for a while.
If you can ping the FQDN, look at how DNS devolution is set up the PC. Winsock API which MS ping will automatically use the FQDN of the client PC if append primary and connection specific DNS suffix is checked in TCP/IP advanced DNS settings. If the host is in another domain, the client must perform DNS devolution.
Is there a downside when using a different primary DNS suffix for a domain joined computer ? I mean other then the domain name. Like this : - domain.com = AD domain name, the computer is joined to this domain - branchoffice.domain.com = DNS subzone that contains some static A-records.
